Short Thought about Negotiation
Roughly speaking, I start negotiating professionally when I am convincing someone that I know to become my partner around mid-2017. And the way I do it is through making my intention clear — what I want, need, and what I could provide — and how we’re going to scale through this partnership.
The point is clear, this is what I can provide for you, this is my value and if you take it, great! If you don’t, I’m going to find someone else.
And I think my framework, from 2017 to 2018, is still the same and its:
- Pointing out what I can provide a.k.a. this is my value.
- Pointing out what I need from him/her/potential partner a.k.a. you provide me with this and I provide you with this.
- Finally, explain what I’m going to do with this partnership/collaboration a.k.a. “Here’s my plan” and let the chips fall where they may.
Through this framework, I gained several partnerships and convinced several other individuals.
- I convinced a handful of individuals to create two startups: Hipotesa and Neuron.
- Through Hipotesa and Neuron, I got other partnerships and collaboration as well: Koinesia, Poliklitik — part of GeoMedia Group, Ambassadors of Universitas Pelita Harapan 2018, ADX Asia, Docare Laras Indonesia, and Indonesian Red Cross.
written in 2018 and I went ahead to publish it anyway in 2020 hahaha >.<
